Mitsubishi Motors has unveiled the facelifted 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in Thailand. This is the next generation of the SUV sold in India and one that debuted originally in 2015. Given the long wait, the carmaker has made some extensive changes.
The most noticeable of these is the styling. The Pajero Sport now gets the latest Mitsubishi family face, termed Dynamic Shile. This is expressed by the slim, angular headlamps, the wide slats for the grille, the large air-dam below it and the deep housings for the vertical indicators and fog lamps. This theme carries over to the rear with the protruding bumper and the long, vertical taillamps. All the lighting elements are now LED.
The interiors have seen a few changes too. There is a new eight-inch infotainment screen and a new eight-inch digital instrument cluster. The space is finished in gloss back and grey, with silver inserts. There are soft-touch bits on the centre console and doors, dual-zone airconditioning, and USB ports all-round. Safety is very well taken care of too in the ladder-frame SUV. You get adaptive cruise control, a forward collision avoidance system, blind-spot warning, lane change assist, cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree camera. Adding to this is hill descent control, hill start assist, stability control and seven airbags.
The Thai-spec Pajero Sport comes with a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel with 181PS and 430 Nm. This is paired with a new eight-speed auto and optional 4WD. Prices start at Rs 1.299 million baht or Rs 27.4 lakh in Thailand. If this SUV launches in India expect it to cost over Rs 30 lakh given that it will come in as a CBU
