There is no shortage of fantastic independent cafés and restaurants in Dubai’s Jumeirah Lakes Towers, but now the neighbourhood has its very own Asian food hall. And in the few short months since opening, it’s already been nominated for a Time Out Dubai Restaurant Award.
Set up by the team behind Dubai’s popular Thai and Chinese food delivery brand Zen, this newcomer to JLT’s Cluster D features a series of different kitchens dedicated to cooking up dishes from Asia’s foodiest hotspots.
Fat Aunt’s serves up a range of Malaysian and Singaporean favourites, including curries (from Dhs29) and sambal prawns (Dhs38), plus a plate of crispy spring onion pancakes (Dhs14) that is absolutely not to be missed.
Hing Kee, meanwhile cooks up barbecued Thai and Chinese dishes such as char siu beef rice (Dhs38) and Thai barbecue chicken (Dhs32) from a limited menu of smoky grills.
Zen, however, sits at the heart of the whole operation, with a far larger menu of dishes born of the original concept. Try everything from Thai curries and enormous piles of pad Thai (Dhs34) to crunchy, spicy salads and sweet, sticky satay.
It’s still early days, and there are plans to tweak the menu and experience based on customer feedback as the venue grows.
A meal for two will set you back under Dhs150 for two – and you’ll have plenty of leftovers to pack up and take home for another round.
Chopsticks at the ready…
