Following their respective wins in the AFC U-23 Championship 2020 Qualifiers, many are intrigued to see the pending clash between Thailand and Vietnam.
Both teams have yet to concede in the competition, with the War Elephants atop the standings thanks to a superior goal difference.
And heading into the mouth-watering clash against the Golden Dragons, Thailand coach Alexandre Gama reveals that his men are prepared for the Group K hosts.
Speaking, he said: “Before I came here, there were many goals on the table. In the group, both Vietnam and Thailand have been tipped to finish at the top. And with the pending clash, we will try our best.
“I can’t say anything at the moment, but I have watched Vietnam play and have a plan for the match against them.”
As hosts for the final tournament, Thailand have automatically won a spot. However, their performances in the qualifiers have been frightening – including a 4-0 thrashing of Indonesia who has a core of U-22 players who recently won the AFF U-22 Youth Championships.
They improved in their next match, thrashing Brunei 8-0 to catapult to the top of the table.
Vietnam dominated against Brunei as well, with a 6-0 win and Gama spoke about making sure they perform well.
He said: “At the start of the match, Vietnam won huge over Brunei so we had to try and score as many goals as possible in this match to create an advantage.
“For this particular match, I brought some young players in and they performed well. It is important to us to do well in this tournament..”
Finally, he spoke about an apparent disappointment against Brunei and Gama revealed: “My philosophy is to always try harder. Just because we’re up 8-0 doesn’t mean we are allowed to relax put our guards down. We still have our last match against Vietnam.”
