Rosewood Phnom Penh ‘Asia’s Best City Hotel’

Rosewood Hotel’s unwavering commitment to Cambodia’s thriving tourism industry has recently been recognised with a high-ranking place on the global stage.

Travel + Leisure magazine has ranked it number 9 among the top 100 hotels worldwide and named it the Best City Hotel in Asia.

“Travel and Leisure magazine is the top travel magazine in the world. They have editions in different regions, but this is a global award,” explained Daniel Simon, managing director of Rosewood Hotel.

He added: “Among the top 100, there is another Asian resort ahead of us, but we are the Best City Hotel in Asia. Travel and Leisure is a well-regarded publication”.

This achievement underscores Rosewood’s status as a superb hospitality establishment.

It also propels Cambodia’s visibility as a prime tourist destination. The hotel extends beyond luxury and stellar service, becoming a beacon for Cambodian artists and non-profit organisations, especially amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

“If you’re an international tourist visiting us, it’s not just a typical hotel. On our 35th floor, we have an art gallery. We display art from Cambodian artists or foreign artists working in Cambodia,” Simon explained.

“We aim to uplift and support the local community. Through our Open Door Program, we provide opportunities for demographics usually overlooked by luxury hotels,” he stated.

This year, Rosewood is supporting 15 rural students with a 12-month internship, complete with full salaries, service charges, and accommodation. The goal is to offer them employment after the internship.

Rosewood also supports Cambodian arts and artists locally and internationally. The hotel has hosted over 20 exhibitions and showcased the works of more than 50 local artists.

The current exhibition, “Cambodian Arts Making a Global Leap”, celebrates the friendship between Cambodia and Japan.

“I am proud to announce that Rosewood Phnom Penh has raised USD65,000 for Phare Ponleu Selpak, a local charity,” Simon declared.

Guests staying at Rosewood can enjoy an immersive art experience, with guided tours providing insightful information. They also benefit from convenient electric vehicle transport to the National Museum.

“We offer a unique tour for the lost treasures, which is exclusive to us,” Simon shared.

He highlighted: “You get to appreciate beautiful architecture, music, and other arts”.

In Phnom Penh, many other hotels are set to open in the next six to 24 months. Simon acknowledged the need to stay ahead with quality service, products, and food. Before the pandemic, tourists typically stayed in Cambodia for just two days.

“Now people are coming to experience Cambodia,” Simon told The Post.

He added that Rosewood has initiated a joint project with Shinta Mani Wild in Siem Reap and Six Senses. This collaborative project, a 12-day tour, seamlessly transitions guests from one hotel to another, enabling them to explore the entirety of Cambodia in a safe manner.

Rosewood also delights guests with its culinary offerings. Collaborating with Cambodia’s celebrity chef Rotanak Ros, the hotel boasts a Khmer menu that celebrates regional flavours.

“Chef Nak has been instrumental in promoting Cambodian cuisine to international audiences,” Simon noted.

Chef Nak has introduced a new cookbook to be exhibited at Rosewood’s gallery. This not only celebrates her culinary creations but also provides a platform for local artists.

“We believe art and gastronomy go hand in hand. This exhibition is a testament to the vibrant cultural scene in Phnom Penh,” Simon told The Post.

In a bustling Southeast Asian city, Rosewood has won over readers with its serene atmosphere amidst vibrant energy, according to Travel + Leisure’s website. Meanwhile, the world’s number 1 hotel title goes to the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet in Turkey.

These rankings were determined by Travel + Leisure Magazine’s World’s Best Awards survey. Nearly 165,000 readers cast over 685,000 votes for 8,500 properties. The survey measures reader opinions on rooms, location, service, food, and value, demonstrating their crucial role in shaping the travel industry.
