Jakarta – The Indonesian Minister of National Development Planning, Suharso Monoarfa, and British Minister of for Women and Equalities, Anneliese Dodds, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on sustainable development and the green economy.
The agreement spans strategic issues concerning sustainable development and the green economy, including new and renewable energy, green industry development, and inclusive and gender-based development.
“The agreement focuses on strategic issues, including climate change, conservation and natural resources, low carbon energy development, urban planning, and sustainable transportation,” said Minister of National Development Planning, Suharso Monoarfa, in his speech on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
According to Suharso, Indonesia and the UK have a long history of bilateral cooperation. Thus, he said the program is necessary as it serves as a formal basis for the continuation of cooperation between Indonesia and the UK. At the same time, it identifies new opportunities that are in line with the development priorities of Golden Indonesia 2045 and the global development agenda of SDGs 2030.
“This MoU will serve as a formal basis for the continuation of the cooperation that we have established, as well as identifying new opportunities,” explained Suharso.
Anneliese Dodds also welcomed the cooperation. She aims to build stronger cooperation with Indonesia on the issue of sustainable development, especially on green growth, climate finance, and climate resilience. She even expressed her desire to cooperate with the Prabowo Subianto government.
Minister Dodds is also scheduled to meet with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pahala Mansury, and Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar today. Tomorrow, the British minister will meet with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia to discuss bilateral partnerships in addressing the climate crisis, forestry, energy transition, and the broader international development agenda.
