Indonesian Islamic Organization Expects Indonesia-China Relations to Set Groundwork for Peace

Indonesia-China relations must become the foundation for world peace and realizing a better world order, according to Indonesian Islamic Organization Friendship Institute (LPOI) Head Said Aqil Siradj.

“Indonesia-China relations are expected to support world peace toward a better, civilized, and mutually beneficial global order,” he said during a public discussion and mass iftar with the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, Lu Kang, at Al-Tsaqafah Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) on Friday (April 14, 2023).

Siradj, who served as the head of Nahdlatul Ulama from 2010 to 2021, said that given their strong historical and spiritual ties, the relations between Indonesia and China must be bolstered to realize a better future for all.

To achieve the goal, Indonesia and China must strengthen their collaboration, interconnection, and convergence, as well as relations and brotherhood between their people, the cleric added.

He also highlighted the need for enhancing business relations and collaboration between Indonesia and China in the education sector.

“We also need to strengthen inter-government partnership with a futuristic vision to ensure Indonesia and China can unite in cooperation as inseparable as two sides of the same coin,” he said.

Indonesia and China’s strategic positions in geopolitical, geoeconomic, and geostrategic aspects could be the main capital for realizing a common movement to script a better future, the LPOI head stressed.

“In the future, the stakeholders of the two nations must be interconnected individually or collectively so that we can together tackle all threats and attacks that have or will occur,” Siradj said.

The cleric further said that as a developed country with superiority in various global aspects, China could lead Asia to realize a better and outstanding civilization.

“The domination of global oligarchy and Western colonialism must end; Asia must arise,” he emphasized.

On the same occasion, Siradj also conveyed the LPOI and Indonesian Religious Organizations’ Friendship Institute’s (LPOK’s) appreciation of the Chinese government’s initiative to mediate the thawing of relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
