Mekong Plaza, Mesa’s biggest hub for Asian-owned restaurants and businesses, will soon welcome several additional restaurants as part of an expansion that began construction in 2022.
The 35,000-square-foot expansion to the plaza is expected to be complete by the summer of 2024. Up to a dozen new businesses are expected to open, three of which have been announced so far.
The first restaurant with a confirmed location at the expanded Mekong Plaza is Haidilao, a Chinese hot pot chain with restaurants in over a dozen countries, including five in the U.S. The Mekong Plaza location will be the first in Arizona.
Another restaurant will be Meet Fresh, a Taiwanese dessert shop that serves shaved ice, soft serve, tofu pudding, boba tea and other desserts. Meet Fresh currently has two other Arizona locations in Chandler and Mesa.
An as of yet unnamed Korean barbecue restaurant is also expected to open in the coming months.
In addition to the new restaurants, the Mekong Plaza expansion will include a salon and several other small businesses.
